World-changing habits
Suzette Haden Elgin once proposed that if one parameter in ones living is changed, the whole thing is changed. One of her examples went approximately like this: when fish discovered the land as a habitat and started breathing air, they were no longer fish. So changes are possible from just ONE parameter. That´s actually good news.
For personal reasons (sometimes flaring emotions, background in candida albicans) I decided to have my parameter be excess sugar – and I feel the differences (alongside with the effects of my Feldenkrais-training, which leaves me with more energy). I get more disciplined, have a better grip on the times I´m shooting out emotional bolts, thus live better, thus have more energy and success in my live.
The only drawback is that it is so easy to go back to breathing in water, I mean eating excess sugar. The chief-bookkeeper of the company I work for also said that kicking off of sugar is more difficult than cigarettes because sugar is almost like air: omnipresent.
Today another person in our company celebrates her birthday with a cake. Since it is a cake from a package which smells delicious but also will have additives that are “pfui-pfui” I will go the “Helmut Gote Way”: he ones stated in a broadcast that chocolate absolutely has to be quite high quality to justify the calorie-intake and that is my holdfast for today, because I was about to cave in to the smell and finding reasons why it would be ok to slip today.
Thanks for reading this, writing it has boosted my resolve and maybe it will leave you wondering what kind of ONE thing will change your life to the better? Maybe even a more easier thing than giving up water or excess sugar ;-)
